The Nevada SBDC is a dynamic workplace that works to support Nevada small business owners. Day-to-day operations of the organization change in response to the requests of clients and the ever-changing world of small business and entrepreneurship. Interns with the Nevada SBDC have the opportunity to see first-hand the inner workings of small business – and shape their intern experience to explore their specific skills and interests.

Job Description:

Work with business counselors to give business development assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners. The marketing and strategic communications intern will work to provide market research and communications recommendations for clients. The intern will work directly with clients and contribute to client work for other team members. The intern will also work directly with the Nevada SBDC social media team to write and schedule content, design digital content, and consistently engage on social media platforms.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create marketing plans using all strategic communications tools (i.e. traditional advertising, social media, public relations, direct-to-consumer marketing, etc.).
  • Review clients’ current marketing materials, including brochures, websites, point-of-sale pieces and make suggestions
  • Work with clients to develop marketing strategy and activation plans
  • Conduct industry/market research for clients
  • Create marketing content for the Nevada SBDC, including web content, articles, social media content and other materials
  • Coordinate with other interns on various client projects

Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising, public relations, social media strategies and tactics
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Word; proficiency in Adobe Suite is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, for use in client deliverables, client meetings and other work
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, balancing deadlines and deliverables to meet client and team needs

Education and Experience:

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a University of Nevada, Reno Undergraduate program earning at least 12 credits per semester. A great personality and willingness to take on tasks is a must.
  • Past internships or work experience in a professional business environment is desired. It is strongly recommended that candidates have introductory educational or working experience in business.
